Taylor-Wharton announced today that effective
April 1, 2001, they will be assessing a temporary 1.9% Energy
Surcharge on all orders for Acetylene and High Pressure Cylinders.
The surcharge is necessary to aid in absorbing a portion of the
escalating energy costs that have been plaguing industrial and
consumer markets across the nation.
"We have taken every step possible to avoid
this surcharge," said Robert Steinkamp, Harsco’s Gas and
Fluid Control Group, Vice President and General Manager - High
Pressure and Acetylene Cylinders. "But during the past
several months we have experienced an unprecedented increase in
costs associated with fueling our facilities."
Taylor-Wharton indicated that during the past
several months, the cost of some energy methods used to fuel their
manufacturing locations had doubled and in some cases even
tripled. This rate of increase far surpassed their ability to
absorb those costs.
Mr. Steinkamp added, "I want to reiterate
to our customers that this is a temporary increase, and assure
them that Taylor-Wharton will continue to do everything in their
power to neutralize any future increases and to stabilize the
current situation."
