Sherwood Introduces Sher-Med KVM Valve for MRI Environments

Sherwood, a division of Harsco Gas & Fluid Control Group, is proud to introduce their new MRI environment post type medical valve – the Sher-Med KVM. Sherwood’s new valve is the only US manufactured valve to-date, to have satisfied all known industry requirements for total MR safety and compatibility.

Testing was performed at the renowned Magnetic Resonance Services Department located at the University of Pittsburgh by Dr. Emanual Kanal, MD. Dr. Kanal has chaired and/or served on MR safety committees for over 17 years and is one of the world’s leading authorities in the area of MR safety. Dr. Kanal’s rigorous testing program was conducted in three stages; 1) An MR safety test which included the deflection angle test, designed to ensure patient safety. 2) An MR compatibility test that ensures that Sher-Med KVM will not interfere with the accuracy or performance of the MRI imaging, and 3) an MR compatibility test that ensures an active MRI does not disrupt the function of the valve. At the conclusion of the test, Dr. Kanal, in his expert opinion, determined that the Sher-Med KVM easily satisfied all known requirements for MR safety and compatibility.

According to Ken Miller, Vice President and General Manager of Sherwood, "This new valve is a major advancement for the medical valve industry. Users can now rest assured that if their equipment includes Sherwood’s Sher-Med KVM valve, then they are using the safest, most reliable valve possible for MRI environments."
